HO Tzu Nyen
In 2000, while majoring in sculpture and photography at the Victorian College of the Arts, Melbourne, Ho Tzu Nyen received the Derrida Prize named after, and judged by French philosopher Jacques Derrida for his first exhibited artwork. Upon completion of his studies, he returned to Singapore in 2001, where he worked as a painter, while engaging in art and film criticism. 

In 2003, Ho made "Utama - Every Name in History is I", a film, art and performance lecture project that has since been presented in different forms in different parts of the world, including The Substation (2003), Singapore; the 26th Sao Paulo Biennale (2004); the 3rd Fukuoka Asian Art Triennale (2005); ICA, London (2005); KunstenFESTIVALdesArts (2006), Brussels. It has also been presented at various film festivals, such as the 5th Bangkok International Film Festival (2004), 11th Hong Kong International Film Festival (2006), and MOV Digital Film Festival (Manila).  The film was voted in ‘The Senses of Cinema’ as one of the three best short films of 2004. 

To date, the film has been translated into French, Flemish, Italian, Malay, Chinese and Japanese. Since then, Ho has making video and short films that were shown in international exhibition and festivals. Among these are "4 x 4 – Episodes of Singapore Art" (2005), shown at art exhibitions and video festivals in Seoul; Shanghai; Tokyo; Budapest; Berlin; Warsaw; Adelaide; Brussels; Jakarta; and Karlsruhe and was voted in “The Senses of Cinema” as the best short films from Singapore produced in the year 2005–2006; and "The Bohemian Rhapsody Project", shown at the inaugural Singapore Biennale (2006), in competition at the 53rd Short Film Festival Oberhausen, the 15th Curtas Vila do Conde Film Festival, and the 26th Uppsala International Short Film Festival, as well as Gallery 3,14 (Oslo); ZKM (Germany), The Yuerba Buena Arts Center (San Francisco), CACSA (Adelaide), amongst other places. Currently, Ho is working on two feature films that will be completed in 2008.  The first is "Here", a film about madness and the cinema.  The second is "Cloudcuckooland", a film about childhood, imagination, and utopia.

In addition, Ho writes on art and the cinema for a number of international journals such as "Broadsheet" (Australia), "Inter-Asia Cultural Studies" (UK/Taiwan), "FOCAS" (Singapore), as well as contributing the occasional essay for catalogues.  Since 2005, he has been the Singapore Editor for Art AsiaPacific (US).

In order to protect your personal information and to allow you to use the various services offered on this website with confidence, The Eslite Corporation (hereinafter referred to as "Eslite") explains the ESLITE GALLERY website's privacy rights protection policy as follows:


1. Collecting personal information

When you leave messages or browse the website, Eslite collects your personal information within the scope of collection objectives as outlined in Point 4 (1). When you leave messages, Eslite will ask you to provide such personal information as your name, address, phone number, and email address. This information is not disclosed to third parties.

Once you upload, transfer, input, or provide your personal information and messages to the ESLITE GALLERY website, you are regarded as being aware of and agreeing to Eslite's privacy rights protection policy and your personal information and messages are considered to be within the scope of collection objectives as stipulated in Point 4 (1) to be handled, used, and transferred internationally.

(2) Judicial authorities request your personal information in accordance with the relevant laws and regulations. The ESLITE GALLERY website will cooperate as necessary with said judicial authorities in the carrying out of legal investigations.

(4) The personal information you provide is erroneous, false, or incorrect.

3. Modifications and changes to the privacy rights protection policy

Whenever Eslite makes modifications or changes to the privacy rights protection policy on the ESLITE GALLERY website, it provides notifications to that effect on the website. You may check the website for any such modifications or changes.


4. Personal information protection notification and consent

In order to provide ESLITE GALLERY website users the best possible web services and protect personal information or users in accordance with Articles 8 and 9 of the Personal Information Protection Act (hereinafter referred to as “the Personal Information Act"), Eslite, hereby, notifies you of the following information:
