LI Qing

LI Qing

Born 1984 in Shaoxing, Zhejiang Province, China, based in Hangzhou

LI Qing places painting in a specious paradox where he deals with various subject matters such as day-to-day realities, emotional relationships, news, historical memory, and representational artistic images. Behind his conceptual creation, there is a sensibility for mirage and reality, time and existence. Subsequently, he turns his attention towards consumerism and focuses on the states of the possession, consumption and abandonment of commodities with a poetic gaze of “mono no aware”. In his work White Group Portrait, he endowed old refrigerators with a monumental but wracked dignity. LI's most recent works are paintings on discarded windows in which he creates overlapping scenes of the interior space and outside environment. These works also show his extension from painting towards installation.
